Welcome and thank you for visiting Lonnie Davis-Dance.com. I am very excited to have a place that can offer you all the info regarding my current and upcoming projects, schedules & Master Classes.

Originally from Ft Wayne, Indiana, I was introduced to dance by the renowned Baba Chuck Davis and the African American Dance Ensemble. After being granted a scholarship to the American Dance Festival at Duke University, I was immersed “head first” into my professional dance training. My summer months were spent training at ADF and Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. Soon after, I joined Dayton Contemporary Dance Co. II. There I had the honor of studying with some of the most noted African American teachers/choreographers in American Modern Dance. Some include; James Truitte, Donald McKayle, Jeraldyne Blunden, Bernard Johnson, Kevin Ward, Dawn Wood and Terence Greene.

After that incredible experience I was invited to join Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago. While in Chicago, I honed my jazz dance technique by learning several jazz styles-and dancing the works of Gus Giordano, Frank Chavez, Margo Sappington, Billy Siegenfeld, and Sam Watson to name a few.

I’ve had the privilege of performing with Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Co-Kansas City, MO where I danced leads roles in classic works such as Lester Horton’s “Beloved”, Sean Curran’s “Symbolic Logic”, Kevin Iega Jeff’s “Church of Nations”, Fred Benjamin’s “Ice Fire”, Rod Roger’s “Percussion Suite”; and Leni Wylliams’ “Trying Times”.

My career now finds me sharing my passion for dance as a choreographer and educator. I’ve had the pleasure of teaching and choreographing for institutions and companies all over the country. Some include Master Teacher for PROJECT DANCE NYC/ATL; Ruth Mitchell Dance Theatre; Atlanta Ballet Centre for Dance Education; Georgia Dance Conservatory; Full Circle Dance Co., Ballet Dalton, Gainesville Ballet, Cobb County Center For Excellence in the Performing Arts; guest lecturer at Ohio University School of Dance-“DANCE AS A PROFESSION”; resident choreographer/company instructor for REFUGE Dance Co.; Brenau University; and the Georgia Governor Honors Program.  I am excited to have been featured choreographer for Atlanta’s Dance Canvas “Introducing the Next Generation” choreographers showcase. In 2009 I presented two world premieres “Velocity” & “Time After Time” to rave reviews. In the Fall of 2010 Atlanta graciously received my work “Kinetic”.  2011 found me creating two new works for Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company which premiered during the Fall Season.  I recently returned from Leeds, England where I was invited to teach company class for UK based Phoenix Dance Theatre.
